Conscious Movement
Famo Fascia Movement
A movement concept developed by Karin Gurtner and based on Tom Myers Anatomy Trains in Motion. It focuses around the Fascia, its features and properties, the role it plays in movement in order to train it consciously, to make it elastic, hydrated and to strengthen it. The fascial system is primarily composed of collagen fibers, it is the "internal architecture of the body" and the largest sensory organ of the human body. The collagen fibers form a three-dimensional matrix that permeates the entire body, surrounding all our muscles, bones, nerves, organs, joints: fascia protects, connects and integrates all the body's structures and determines the shape of the body.
If we compare the fascia to a sponge it is easy to understand why it is important to take care of it. When a sponge dries out it becomes fragile and hard. On the other hand, when a sponge is wet and well hydrated it becomes elastic and resistant providing glide between the fascial layers. That is why keeping our fascia hydrated is paramount!
Famo Fascia Movement works precisely in this direction with a program of movements and sequences, multidimensional exercises that "rejuvenate" and hydrate the fascial structures by stimulating the cells of the connective tissue, the fibroblasts, to renew the collagen network.
The practice is done barefoot on a mat. The movements are performed with awareness and can be adapted to individual needs. The repertoire of exercises is versatile and includes slow and controlled movements, “melting” positions, holding positions, rhythmic and dynamic elements. Self-massage exercises may sometimes be incorporated with soft massage balls and domes.
I work with people of all ages and I am committed to helping bring the work on the mat to everyday life, performing simple daily activities with a deeper and better understanding of the body. To achieve this goal I don’t limit myself to any specific school of thought, I remain curious and open to grow in my own understanding and resonance of the body and its whimsical nature.
